    Iris

    Iris, formerly known as Hana Hunt, is a thirteen year old itinerant currently fleeing from the Tacoma law enforcement with her sister Haley, now under the alias of Amelia, after the latter murdered their father in defence of their moribund mother during a vituperative outburst between the two. Haley, fearing for the worst and assuming that she'd be incarcerated for her actions, took her younger sister by hand and fled from their broken home, petrified of the future that Hana would most likely face under the watch of either their impotent mother or the cold confines of the government. Now bound to the streets, the girls must use their wits to survive.

    Chapter One: Fight or Flight;

    Born on the third of March in the early nineties to Hank and Harriet Hunt in Tacoma, Washington, Hana and her elder sister Hayley didn't have the greatest quality of life whilst growing up in their meagre worn out homestead. Ever since the girls could remember, Hank would treat their mother like dirt, abusing the woman both mentally and physically until she became fully passive and subservient towards the man, teaching her daughters since the day they were born that this was the norm, and to never question it or bring it up to anybody, especially not their father.

    During the early years of their lives, growing up in their dismal dwelling, Hana and Haley were shown little to no attention from their guardians, relying on each other to stay sentient and sane from within their residence. Haley cared for Hana like she were her own daughter, she cared for her like a parent, like Harriet should have. Ever since the mere age of seven Haley fed, bathed and put Hana to bed every single night, only ever having time for herself at school, the only place where she truly felt free. As Hana grew older, Harriet began to take on the more important tasks of caring for a toddler, finding it less demanding that it used to be.

    As Hana grew in to a young adolescent she took on the task of caring for herself as Haley focused on her studies, dreaming of taking both herself and her sister away from the painstaking monotonous lifestyle that they experienced every day. Harriet and Hank's fighting grew worse as the girls grew older, with blood and tears now staining the drab carpets of their living room. Hana began to live a double life, one of passionate studies and spirited kinship between herself and her peers at school, and one of a deep dark depression at home, spending her nights crying herself to sleep and waking up with a smile, eager to leave the presence of her parents.

    At the age of ten, the fighting within the Hunt household grew more violent and bitter, resulting in Hank disregarding the existence of his daughters, enforcing Harriet to follow suit. While Hana and Haley were never touched both emotionally and physically by their father, they were left to a fate of fending for themselves, causing Haley to drop out of high school to find work to feed both herself and her sister. On weekends, Haley would attempt to take her sister away from their home for a few hours, just to show her that life is worth living when not around the company of their custodians, however the girls would return to their mother beaten to a bloody mess and their father in an intoxicated rage.

    On one rainy Tuesday night at the age of thirteen, the fighting from within the Hunt household grew too much for both girls to take, causing Hana to flee to her room in fear. Hank beat Harriet unconscious, and continued to savagely assault her. After several loud screams and shouts between Hank and Haley, a gunshot rang out throughout the ignominious neighbourhood. Covered in the blood of their father, Haley took Hana by the hand and fled from the scene.

    With no idea of what to do or where to go, the two girls caught the nearest bus from the station closest to their now former home. Haley, using the money that she stole from her fathers secret alcohol stash, purchased two tickets and journeyed with her frangible sister for several hours until arriving in Astoria, Oregon as a storm began to brew over the dim-lit city. After witnessing a news report covering the two missing girls and their now deceased father and waning mother, Haley realised that to remain undetected, the girls needed to begin new lives. Upon adopting new aliases and renting a room in a rundown motel not far from the city centre, the covert creation of Amelia and Iris began. Armed with nothing but their wits, the sisters embraced their freedom.

    Chapter Two: To Have Loved;

    After all modes of transport had been inhibited by the law enforcement due to the increasingly dangerous storm overshadowing Astoria and it's neighbouring cities, Iris and Amelia had no choice but to the use the money they had left to rent out a room in a dingy, dirty motel room. Before the weather became too unbearable, Amelia had hatched a plan with Iris in order to gather some food for the night to come. Finding the closest yet inexpensive corner store took only a few minutes in a city like Astoria, and once inside Amelia distracted the cashier with a clogged toilet, helping him to clean the overflown water. Iris stuffed whatever non-perishables she could fit in to her schoolbag, leaving the store without the cashier even knowing that she had entered. Amelia and Iris spent the few hours they had left of they day inside their motel room as the storm outside began to enact its vengeance on the ocean-side city. As the next daylight began to spread across the tarmac of the parking lot outside their motel room, Amelia and Iris paid for two more nights in the establishment, rendering them officially broke. The duo ventured out in to the city to view its 'attractions', enjoying several hours away from their problems, even forgetting that Amelia had in fact the night before murdered her own father. However, their leisurely lifestyle soon came to a sudden halt, as upon returning to their motel room and sitting down to eat, Amelia and Iris saw their guardians faces spread across the T.V screen, along with Haley's true identity attached to a picture of herself. With their father reported as being murdered by an unknown affiliate and their mother in an unstable condition, the two girls were officially labelled as missing persons, inducing fear in the duo.
